Financial Aid
Types of Aid: Grants
There are two types of federal and state student aid grants available.
Find out more about:
- Federal Pell Grants, unlike a loan, do not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate
students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree. The maximum Pell
Grant is currently $7,395. You can receive one Pell Grant in an award year. How much
you receive will depend on your cost of attendance, whether you are a full-time or
part-time student, and whether you attend school for a full academic year or less.
You may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time. Pell Grant
funds will be credited to your expenses in the registration process in the Business
Services office.
- You must submit a FAFSA each year to be considered for an award.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs) are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need-those with the lowest Student Aid Index (SAI) numbers.
- Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority for FSEOG awards.
- FSEOG awards range from $100 to $2,000 a year.
- Your FAFSA should be submitted by Northern’s priority deadline, usually on the first Friday of February each year to be considered for an award.
