Married Student Housing (Family Housing)
Two
units to provide apartments for married students were under construction
in 1960. Three more units were added in 1961 for a total of 47 one and
two bedroom apartments. Several of these units were used as dormitory
space in the years that Donaldson Hall overflowed
its housing capacity. This extended dormitory space was imaginatively
called the "Ivory Towers." For a brief time in the mid 1980s
two apartments were converted for use as the campus Child Care facility.
When the program out grew the space and moved to a larger house on campus
in 1996, the space was converted to provide infant care. Additional remodeling
to the complex during this same time replaced the old steam heat system
that residents found challenging. A small park behind building 12 in this
area was developed and dedicated in 1982 in memory of Roland Morgan, a
deceased student and resident of the housing complex at the time of his
death.
