Required Training Course for MSU-Northern Students
This online training will assist you in being a part of a community that focuses on the safety and well-being at the core of its campus culture. This training will offer support and guidance that is trauma informed, on how to navigate such topics as sexual assault, mental health, substance use, and several others.

How to Access and Complete Thriving Together
This course is required for all new and transfer students at MSU- Northern and all other campuses in the Montana University System (MUS). The course will take approximately 60 to 75 minutes to complete.
- Login to Canvas, select the Thriving Together course and complete it at your own pace.
- Your progress will be saved, allowing you to return and resume from where you left off.
- You must score 100% on all Knowledge Checks in order to pass the training.

At Northern there are many resources and support services. This course will expose you to them and ensure that you are aware of how, where, and when you can get assistance should you need it.
You are not required to complete the course twice. If you have previously completed Thriving Together at another Montana State University System institution, you do not need to repeat the training at Montana State University Northern.
*Note: If you have previously completed the Vector Solutions: Alcohol Edu and Sexual Assault Prevention, the prevention team will accept proof of completion through Spring 2028.
First log into Canvas. Your certificates should be visible. If not, please email deanofstudents@msun.edu. Provide full name and last four digits of student ID number (GID).
You will receive a hold on your account which will prevent you for registering for the upcoming semester. When you complete Thriving Together in full, your registration hold will automatically lift.
When done, you will receive a certificate of completion that can be accessed through the portal. Download this certificate for your records.
Yes, every incoming MSU- Northern student, in-person or online, must complete this program.

Yes, Thriving Together is committed to ensuring that all students are able to access and experience their courses. The program is in compliance with the guidelines and standards put forth by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The WCAG 2.0 covers a wide range of recommendations for making Web content accessible to individuals with disabilities, including, but not limited to, visual impairment, hearing impairment, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, and combinations of these.

If you do not have an accessible computer at home, you can use any publicly available computer with internet access and audio capabilities. If you are on campus, MSU- Northern offers several student computer labs.
