Responsible Party: Human Resources

MSU-Northern encourages and supports breastfeeding mothers by accommodating the mother wishing to breastfeed or express milk during her workday when separated from her child. In compliance with state law, suitable space will be made available for breastfeeding or the expression of milk. Employees should contact the Human Resources Department for accommodation. A reasonable amount of unpaid time will be provided for lactation accommodation and, if reasonably possible, the accommodation will coincide with the employee’s paid break time.

In addition, it is unlawful to refuse to hire or employ, or to bar or to discharge from employment an employee who expresses in the workplace; or to discriminate against an employee who expresses milk in the workplace in compensation or in terms, conditions, or privileges of employment unless based upon a bona fide occupational qualification.
